It does exactly what we wanted it to do! Our previous one had an "extra pack" option to hold the trash down if we chose to do so.

Nice compactor. However, I would have given 5 stars if there was a way to pack down the trash, keep it packed down for a few minutes, then release it. The trash goes down but it does' t pack tight.

This is the 2nd GE trash compactor we have had in the last 3-1/2 months. The first unit failed (the Ram stuck) after 2 months. We dealt with customer service, including multiple service calls and service call cancellations, but GE Appliances eventually provided a replacement unit. That unit has now failed after 2 weeks (foot pedal failure, the door won't open). I would like to be able to give this trash compactor a good rating, but I just can't.

The new one replaced our twenty-year-old non-GE that was having problems. One feature I miss that our previous compactor had, was a push button that would keep the ram down to constantly compact until another button was pressed and the ram would come back up to allow for the drawer to open. The GE goes down by lifting the foot switch but immediately comes back up so the trash does not stay compacted. I gave it a 3-star rating because of this, otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

We love the compactor & truly missed not having one in our new house. However the one we chose does not have the extra pack feature.
Other than that it's a good appliance. It's a keeper

So happy to have a new compactor. Trying to get used to it not having a handle, and the buttons to attach the bag to are great, but a little difficult to attach. Overall happy with it.

Our old GE compactor lasted for over 20 years and served us well. Our new compactor has great style and features, but is very noisy when the compacting cycle is activated.
